Visakha Express - Review

Mullapudi Vara comes up with a novel point for the thriller Visakha Express starring Rajeev Kanakala, Allari Naresh and Preeti Jingania. The film has some creative heads involved including SS Rajamouli and Chandrasekhar Yeleti. Chandrasekhar Yeleti provided the screenplay while Mullapudi Vara directed the film. Even with all these heads involved, the film fails to create the required impact. The point is novel, no lag in the film and scintillating performances by Rajeev Kanakala and Naresh; However, the narration leaves a feel of something-a-miss. Story in short: Raja (Rajeev Kanakala) is a doctor, who faces several problems due to the alocholic attitude of his father Kota Srinivasa Rao. Raja's father gets killed in suspicious circumstances and police suspect Raja. Raja is on run now. He meets Raja Ravi Varma (Allari Naresh). They already met in a train in the past and know each other. Raja is in shock when he comes to know that is is Raja Ravi Varma, who killed his father. Now Raja Ravi Varma makes an interesting proposition to Raja, if he wanted a confession with the police. What is the proposition and why did Ravi Varma kill Raja's father forms the story plot. Big plus for the film is the excellent performances by Rajeev Kanakala and Allari Naresh. In a sadistic role, Allari Naresh is amazing and one wonders if any one else could do the role as he did it. In fact, he hogs the entire limelight. Rajeev Kanakala is as usual, delivers a very good performance. That is all that can be talked about the performances in the film because the rest of the cast does not have much. Preeti Jingania is okay in her role. Sindhu Tulani appears in a short role and one wonders why? Ali, Kota, Giridhar and Vijaya Rangaraju are content in the roles. The story point is novel. The film has good performances, excellent background score by Vijay Koorakula, camera by Das are good. Dialogs by Harshavardhan are content and good at times. Stunts by Ram Laxman are good. With all the good values, the film could have been a well made out film. However, the film ends up as a good attempt because of the not-so-exciting screenplay. Narration could have been better. There is no lag felt in the film but at the same time there is no excitement either. Sequences get predictable and that kind of kills the interest. Another big drawback is lack of comedy in the film. Even though Ali is in the film, his character did not get the right elevation. Overall, the film can be seen for the performances of Rajeev Kanakala and Allari Naresh alone. The script work (co-authored by Vakkatam Vamsi) provides ample scope but the narration is predictable. The film opened up good. And the run of the film depends on how the next releases fare.
