Top 5 movies this week

The release of Bujjigadu and Pandurangadu in the space of one week has improved the box office collections considerably. The week on the whole was okay and the coming weeks also look promising in terms of box office collections.

1. Pandurangadu:The film opened on a rather dull note with little hype and poor pre-release publicity. But Balakrishna's brilliant performance, particularly in the second half and his role as lord Krishna are a big draw. The added glamour of Sneha and Tabu and some good music by Keeravani make the film worth watching.

2. Bujjigadu:Bujjigadu made in Chennai opened to a lot of hype and expectations. Prabhas was desperately looking for a big hit. The film's big draw are Prabhas, Puri, Mohan Babu and of course Trisha. Prabhas looks good in his new style and he has also done a great job in the fights and dances.

3. Kantri:NTR's Kanthri has everything new looks for in a NTR film. Director Meher Ramesh unveiled a new look NTR in the film. The action of NTR, Hansika Motwani's charms and Prakash Raj's villainy are the main highlights of the film. It sits in position-3 of the toppers list.

4. Parugu:The Dil Raju and Bommarillu Bhaskar film 'Parugu' starring Allu Arjun and Sheela in the lead roles opened to some mixed talk but slowly picked up. The box office collections are dipping and the film is slowly running out of steam. It sits in position-4 as of now.

5. Jalsa:The Pawan Kalyan starrer Jalsa has completed 50 days run and is running with just average box office collections. The film however broke box office records by collecting 21 crore in the first two weeks of its release. The film now stands at the fifth place.

Parugu collected Rs.21Crs in three weeks

Top 5 movies this week

This week is much better in comparison to last week in terms of box office collections. The release of NTR starrer Kantri has set the cash registers in motion at many cinema halls across the state.
1. Kantri
This NTR starrer produced by Ashwini Dutt and directed by Meher Ramesh opened to some very big expectations from the audience. The two heroines, Hansika Motwani and Tanisha also raised the heat considerably. The film has opened to great collections but is attracting a mixed talk.

2. Parugu
Allu Arjun's film 'Parugu' attracted a lot of media attention and curiosity. The film is about the relationship between a father and his daughters. Bhaskar, who made the super hit film Bommarillu is the director. The name of Dil Raju as producer was another big plus for the film. The film has not made it very big at the box office it is however doing reasonably well and stands at the second place.

3. Jalsa
Pawan Kalyan's Jalsa opened to some fantastic record breaking collections. Some reports say that the film has so far made over 40 crore. While there is no official confirmation about the figures, the film is now set to complete 50 days soon.

4. Bommana-Chandana
The film Bommana Brothers and Chandana Sisters opened to some weak box office collections. The good mouth to mouth publicity and the summer vacation have improved the box office collections now. The film stands at the fourth place. Allari Naresh and Krishna Bhagawan play Bommana Brothers in the film.

5. Gamyam
Krish's Gamyam has crossed the 50 days mark recently and is still going strong. The film is being patronized in a big way by the family audiences as well as the BPO crowd. The film is now at the fifth place. The novel screenplay and taking is the big draw for the film.

"parugu" review

This is the second film for director Bhaskar, who earlier delivered critically acclaimed and commercially superduper film Bommarillu. It is tough to say if Bhaskar did overcome the second film sentiment (this is prevelant in the industry that, usually, the second film of a director would not do well). The storyline is thin and the screenplay of the film seems stretched. The film revolves around a father looking for eloped daughter and it feels that there is too much of search. And finally, audience (especially Chiru fans) might correlate some (or alot) of the scenes with Chiru's second daughter Srija's episode. Chances are that the film might get along well for the lady and family audience. Going into the story, Parugu is about a father and his two daugthers. Neelakantam (Prakashraj) has two daugthers Subbalaxmi (Poonam Bajwa) and Meena (Sheela). Neelakantam is a highly respected person in his place. Neelakantam loves his daugthers more than anything on this earth. His first daughter elopes after her marriage is fixed with someone else. Neelakantam strongly believes that his daughter can never do it and it should be only the guy who might have mislead her. So the search is on for Subbalaxmi. In that context, Neelakantam brings all the friends of the eloped guy to his place. That is how the hero of the film Krishna (Allu Arjun) lands up at Neelakantam's place along with his friends (Srinivasa Reddy, Sunil, Chitram Srinu and two more). Little does Neelakantam know at that time that Krishna is the mastermind who planned the elopement. Krishna plans to run away but promptly falls in love with Meena and returns back. Meena, who knows the agony her father went through due to Subbalaxmi, is very strong on the stand that she would not fall in love. Did Neelakantam finally find Subbalaxmi? Was Krishna able to convince Neelakantam and Subbalaxmi on his love? That has to be seen on the screen. Allu Arjun is at ease in his role as Krishna. His dances are natural but did not have the energy that was seen in Desamuduru. He exceled in the emotional scenes towards the climax. Prakashraj, as the father of two daugthers, did his role good. Well! It is just yet another role for Prakashraj. There isnt anything special about it. Sheela is very impressive in the role of Meena. As an innocent girl in the first half and as a girl who is sandwiched between her father and her love in the second half, Sheela did the roles convincingly. Poonam Bajwa's role is short and she did it good. Jayasudha is unnatural in few scenes. She played the mother of Allu Arjun. Rest of the cast is content in their roles. The expectations are high on this film coming from the director of Bommarillu. In fact, the very points that paved the success way to Bommarillu lacked in this one. Bhaskar, who proved his screenplay expertise in Bommarillu, could not repeat his magic with screenplay here. Even though some of the scenes like Allu Arjun, Sheela scene after he saves her from the rowdies and Prakashraj's drunk dialogs on his daugther show the brand of Bhaskar. Such scenes came out excellent. Overall film feels dragged. This is felt both in the first half and the second half. Neelakantam searching for his daughter at different places feels boring after a while. Dialogs penned by Ravi are good. Music by Mani Sharma is interesting. He might have been in a conflicting cornor where the hero is energetic and good dancer while the situations required kind of soft. Lyrical value in the songs is good. Cinematography is okay. Overall, Parugu could have come out better with some editing in the first half and better screenplay. The film feels dragged with lot of searching for Neelakantam's daughter. The run of the film depends on how the family and lady audience receives it. And also there are several star studded films are in line for release.

"parugu"music review

Mani Sharma works for the first time with Bhaskar, Raju and Arjun in Parugu and his compositions primarily reek of melody here. Also, almost all the songs come across as situational, meaning, visuals could enhance the way the songs work on you. Unlike Jalsa’s music, that caught on instantly and didn’t need any backing from the movie, Parugu’s songs may take time to grow on and if the movie clicks, then there is no stopping this album.

1. Parugulu: This racy song with techno beats almost sounds as if the hero is stalking the heroine warning her that her running away from him, after enticing him, is of no use – vostunnaa nEnE vostunnaa, voddannaa vodilEstaanaa. Sirivennela’s words are mouthed in a zesty manner by Ranjith.
2. Nammavemo :A few of the opening beats (not strings) of this melodious number sound very similar to those in Chiguraakuchaatu chilaka [Gudumba Shankar]. The music that comes during ‘nijamga kallatho’ part of it was inspired by ‘Hey Shona’ from Tara Rum Pum film. Saketh, who sounds so much like SP Charan, has a pleasant voice and sings Anantha Sriram’s poetic words with the flair of a veteran. Impressive!
3. Yelagelaga:Despite a folkish tune, Mani maintains a certain spunky flair in the orchestration, in an attempt to not make this number sound like just another rustic song. While Kailash Kher sounds nasal at places, its Saindhavi’s chirpy rendition that clicks the most. Anantha Sriram’s lyrics are simple and sensible, given the feeling one gets about the lack of a situational demand for this song.

4. Chal Chal Chalo: Chandrabose’s youthful lyrics for this hero introduction number set the mood of the film quite well talking about the restless nature of the hero- gira gira tirigE nyzam, nilabaDanika yE nimiSham, telling us that the hero is always on the run seeking fun and adventure like a typical youth. Ranjith’s spirited rendition suits the mood of the song.
5. Hrudayam: A soulful number this one. It’s good to see Mani use Hemachandra for a variety of songs in his albums – bouncy Niluvave [Lakshyam], melodious Ararey [Ontari], foot-tapping Vayasunamy [Kantri] and a pathos song here. Needless to say, Hemachandra has been giving his best. Given the number of such songs Sirivennela has penned in the past, he never runs out of words that leave an impression on you. halaahalam naaku sontam, nuvvu teesuko amrutam anakunta aa premei prema kaagaladaa. Johaaru Sirivennela garu! Mani’s orchestration, being in tandem with the melancholic mood, makes this number instantly likeable.
6. Manakanna Podiche: A right mix of melody, teen maar beats and a tapping tempo thrown in. Rahul Nambiar’s lively vocals, with right amount of gamakaalu, add a lot of verve to this number. Anantha Sriram’s lyrics remind you of Sirivennela’s writing style. This promising lyricist gets to pen three songs with varying moods in this album and his work gets high marks everywhere. Good going sir.

Pawan denies gifting a diamond necklace to Parvathi MeltonApril 21st, 2008

Pawan Kalyan’s JALSA is already said to be a hit and the collection bells are still ringing merrily at the box office. According to some reliable sources, from few days there is a buzz in Tollywood that Pawan Kalyan was very much impressed by Parvathi Melton’s acting and so has gifted her diamond necklace.
